My Battle with Expectations (Matt Heffernan)

Hi my name is Matt Heffernan, I’m one of the team members for the Skin Deep Project.


When you think of what qualities males ‘should’ possess or exude, what are the generic ideas that develop in your mind?

When media portrays manly men, what images do they usually use to represent this ideal; conversely what are the images they use to represent antagonists?

For me, body image and the sensationalized expectations are part and parcel with the expected attitudes and behaviour for heterosexual males. (Unfortunately it seems to be becoming expected amongst homosexual males too).
